<image:caption>CHOOSE. LOVE. SOFTLY. To Choose. Love. Softly. is to offer the weary soul a sanctuary. It is a quiet breath in a chaotic world, a gentle reminder that grace doesn’t need to shout to be felt. In this soft space, we find the truest, kindest reflection of everything good.</image:caption>

<image:caption>STAND FIRM IN LOVE When we think of feet, we think of movement. Where is the right place to step? What is the right next step? Is there a wrong one? Perhaps the only true misstep is the stillness of fear—the choice not to step at all—the opposite of love. Every path has its rough stones, but when the horizon is uncertain, intention becomes our compass. So, choose to step simply, moving always in the direction toward love.</image:caption>

<image:caption>CHOOSE LOVE, NOT FEAR This paisley design pays homage to the 1960s, reminding us that love is innate while fear is learned. Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote that fear ‘defeats more people than any other thing in the world.’ Yet, when we see ourselves in each other, that fear melts away, leaving love’s pure essence for all to inherit.</image:caption>

In its wings are the colors of Ukraine, carrying a message of hope and peace. As the universal symbol for survivors of abuse, this single butterfly honors the journey of healing. May voices be heard, and may peace be known.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MY HUMMINGBIRD HEART When I first moved to California, I had never seen hummingbirds. I saw a large bush with 10 hummingbirds. I was so taken by the sight that I just sat and watched them. Their rapid wings and movement were so delicate and precise, they took my breath away. I am so moved when I see them that it fills my heart with joy, reminding us that we need to stop and appreciate the beauty around us. Making this quilt made me realize I need to step out of my comfort zone and find that I can be creative. Spending time with old and new friends is so healing in these troubled times. Focusing on what brings us joy, peace, and/or happiness makes me a better person.</image:caption>

<image:caption>FACES OF PEACE My inspiration for this panel came first and foremost from the gathering of people who embraced the idea of sending out a message of peace and love into today’s topsy-turvy world. The compassion, caring & enthusiasm displayed by these people were an inspiration and encouraged me to participate. The idea for the panel itself came from a blank card that I had purchased many years ago. This card showed faces of numerous children from all over the world, of all races, all beliefs, all with their own dreams and aspirations. Some faces were sweet, some fierce, but to me all held wonder and hopefulness of children everywhere. I added the words for peace, love, and hope in three languages –English, Hebrew, and Arabic. (I hope I got them right.) As I looked at the group of children’s faces that I chose from the card, I saw their belief and yearning for peace and happiness, for love & joy--The universal desire for a happy & safe childhood.</image:caption>

When I was approached to contribute to the Peace Quilt, I tried to reach back into my past to a time when I had no worries or cares and the chaos of the world didn’t matter. And I remembered being a little boy surrounded by my toy cars and trucks and planes, where my imagination could run wild with all sorts of creativity and fun nonsense in my own little world, where the only disruption to my happiness would be the call to dinner. This was MY peace as a child. Not being a person with drawing or embroidery skills, I turned to AI to create an idyllic image and the feeling of what my bedroom and toys represented to me—A dreamy place where infinite possibilities begged to be explored.</image:caption>

Even though invisible, these affirmations can bring a positive influence to the surrounding atmosphere and those around you. First, center your heart and then sing it out. Roar peace or harmony, for example. Think and feel it deeply, then send it. Where there’s trouble, suffering, or conflict, roar out the ideal. <image:caption>I MISS THE PERSON I USED TO BE My inspiration for this quote reflects how I feel about the current state of our country. I first put this on a poster for a No Kings protest. Many stopped to read it, touched me on the shoulder, and nodded or touched their hearts. When I say I miss the person I used to be, I think about how I loved starting every day filled with joy, happiness, and passion for family, teaching, and positive news and interactions with all. If I miss who I used to be, it reminds me that “that person” is still there waiting to reemerge. I refuse to lose my hope in these trying times that this too will pass, and we will rise above all this hatred and greed to once again be a country the world respects. We must draw courage and believe there is more good than bad. I think this quote could have been said by Anne Frank. I selected the color purple because it brings me courage. It represents a regal air to rise above and do better. I used a patchwork quilt background because who doesn’t like to curl up in a quilt and feel warm and safe?</image:caption>

Piecing these vibrant peace signs across a backdrop of bright lime fabric felt like stitching pure, untamed optimism into the cotton fabric. It is a bold reminder that creating a world of peace and love requires a vibrant, energetic kind of courage—one that refuses to blend into the background.</image:caption>

<image:caption>PEACE SYMBOL I didn’t specifically ask Susan for this fabric, I simply asked her if she might have any fabric that she could use to surround the image. The following week she came in with the perfect fabric sewn around the Peace Symbol!! As a teen, my best friend’s father had a VW bus that he used to cart us kids all around southern California; to Disneyland, Laguna Beach, Tijuana, MX, Big Bear Lake, and all the Friday night football games. The Universe produced the perfect image through Susan which brought back all those magical, peaceful memories.</image:caption>

<image:caption>LET FREEDOM RING I grew up in New York with Philadelphia serving as my second city. My mother grew up there, and we spent many holidays there with relatives I loved. My holiday memories are among my most cherished. I always loved visiting the Liberty Bell. Since I was very young, it always symbolized everything great to me about America. For the last few years that Liberty Bell has not been ringing true to our country’s intent. Our values have been overlooked, sidestepped, corrupted and tarnished in every important way. I have faith that freedom for all will eventually ring again. Not just soon enough.</image:caption>

<image:caption>LOVE BOMB As a combat veteran, I’ve seen the most brutal side of mankind. As I push through moral injury, I use art to express the stories that I’ve been afraid to tell. I long for the day that love overrides hate. Instead of dropping bombs of destruction on other countries, why can’t we drop bombs of love all over the world? I’ve walked where shadows swallowed names, Where mankind forgot its own heart. Still, beneath the smoke, I carry A stubborn hope that refuses to depart. What if the skies released no fire, No fear falling from above? What if every nation woke To the thunder of relentless love? Let mercy be our only weapon, Compassion our greatest art. May the only bombs we ever drop Be the ones that heal the human heart.</image:caption>

Others described him as kind, welcoming, loving, wise, brave, hilarious, grounded, humble, silly, adventurous, true north. He was a fantastic brother and uncle, true blue gentleman, and mentor to many students and friends along the way. He was an example of how to live well and is greatly missed.</image:caption>

When I met her, I had no idea we would form an extremely close bond that ultimately would be life shaping and changing. Her friendship makes me a wealthy woman, and I worship our safe and expansive bond. The quote is: “Aren’t we all just walking each other home.” Amen</image:caption>

<image:caption>QUIET DEFIENCE I discovered The Talking Heads later than most, but quickly fell for David Byrne’s quirky spirit and belief in human connection. I love his quote, “Love and kindness are forms of resistance. That’s punk.” It’s easy to grow hardened or detached; harder to remain open-hearted. Choosing empathy, creativity, community, and gentleness in a fractured world can itself be an act of quiet defiance.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I MATTER I matter. We matter. But who am I beyond this molecule drifting through this vast universe? I am a brief moment—a human seeking meaning, driven by fear and love, desiring to leave this wacky world better than I found it. For me, mattering is the felt experience of shared connection: belly laughter, wonder, or grief. In these moments, we aren’t alone. Like our beautiful quilts, our individual squares create a collective love that endures. Yes, I matter. Together, we matter. And together, we hope to reshape the fabric of our world for the better.</image:caption>
